My bird subjects are painted in a loose manner, often described as painterly. I sometimes distress the backgrounds as in the ivory-billed and chickadee below. These large scale depictions create a dramatic look that 1/1 scale can not. I am not interested in anatomical perfection, rather I paint portraits in hopes they appear unique. There are countless wildlife paintings rendered to perfection, so I try to create scenes new to a viewer, a picture fresh and inviting to look at.
